Hideyuki Koga, MD, PhD has been a guest researcher at the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center.
His background is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in knee, ankle and shoulder arthroscopy, and he defended his PhD thesis on the topic “Cartilage regeneration using synovial mesenchymal stem cells” in March 2008 at Tokyo Medical and Dental University in Japan.
Hide came to the OSTRC in May 2008, and started working in his other research area of interest, sports injury prevention, mainly focussing on ACL injury prevention. He is now strongly involved in the data collection as well as the data processing and analysis in the ACL risk factor study on team sport athletes.
Hide has been playing soccer and ran full-marathon three times including Oslo marathon in 2009, but also started bench press under Dr Tron Krosshaug, who has already involved four other international researchers in it.
After two years in Norway, Hide returned to Japan and the Tokyo Medical and Dental University in June 2010.
